The winners of the Street Art Canal+ contest were presented yesterday, July 6, 2022, at the headquarters of Canal+ Burkina. With his work entitled "Prelude to a Better Future," John Larris Kabré won the first prize.

The winner of the first edition of the Canal+ Burkina Street Art contest is John Larris Kabré with his graffiti named "Prelude to a Better Future." He was rewarded with a check of one million FCFA. "It is an honor for me to be the lucky winner of this contest, and I would also like to thank CANAL+ for it. It is a great initiative to allow young people to express themselves and showcase their talent," he said.

It is worth noting that John Larris Kabré is a student and holds a Master's degree in Marketing and Business Development. To explain the significance of his work, he first explained that his graphic art is cubism, whose principle, according to him, is to play with geometric shapes in order to simplify reality and play with perspectives.

"What I tried to represent here is first of all history. History is Princess Yennenga and Rialé. They met and were valiant soldiers who defended our lands. And today our lands are taken by terrorists, they try to destroy us and at the same time they destroy our culture and that's why I wanted to represent that to already make known the story, to tell what happened behind us, because if you don't know what's behind you, you can't know what's ahead and also anticipate the future. That's why, also, I wanted to pay tribute to these mourning villages and these fallen soldiers through the tombstones that I put, in a way," John Larris Kabré, winner of the Canal+ Street Art contest.

Apart from the winner, Joël Fiogbé earned the second prize and was awarded a check of 500,000 FCFA. As for the third prize, it went to Ousmane Lougué. He received a check of 300,000 FCFA. Moussa Lankoandé received the audience award and pocketed 30 months of subscription to the Tout Canal+ package.

"Our job is to detect talents on one side"

Returning to this first edition of the contest, it is noted that it was held under the theme "Let's celebrate our heroes, let's celebrate our culture." It was launched on May 9, 2022, with nearly 35 applications, and the jury consisted of 3 personalities, namely the artists Serge Bambara alias Smokey, Adjaratou Ouédraogo, and Philomène Nanéma, better known as "Philo."

For David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Afrique, this contest is part of the mission of the Canal+ group, which is clearly part of the Vivendi group, which takes into account themes such as humor, music, production, and writing. "In fact, our job in this group is undoubtedly to be facilitators. We are facilitators. That is to say, our job is to detect talents, artistic talents, writers, screenwriters, directors, comedians, musicians, game creators, and now painters, wherever they may be, and then to discover them, help them grow, and present them to the general public," he explained.

The rendezvous was given for the second edition of Street Art Canal+.
