Canal+ Street Art Contest: John Lariss Kabre, Grand Winner of the First Edition
The top officials of CANAL+ Burkina were facing the press this Wednesday, July 6, 2022. They convened this meeting not only to highlight the company's major pan-African projects but also to announce the results of the first edition of the Street Art competition, a contemporary artistic movement that encompasses all forms of art created in the streets and public places.
Among the pan-African projects, the Managing Director of CANAL+ Burkina, Jonathan Lett, highlighted the "Yennenga" project, whose objective is to showcase women's entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso. He encourages women with projects to submit their applications no later than July 15, 2022. "They can contact us on our Facebook page. A committee has been set up to validate and advise these women, and also to choose the most important project that will win the title of Yennenga," he stated.
The second project is titled "100 Photos of Burkina Faso." Through this project, "CANAL+ aims to show its subscribers that despite the difficult security situation in some regions, Burkina Faso is a 'magnificent' country." Photos are accepted on the company's Facebook page throughout the month of July. The purpose of this project is to create a book with the 100 most beautiful photos. The contest is open to amateur or professional photographers. A jury has been set up to select the winners. The top 10 photos will be awarded.
According to the Managing Director, the first most beautiful photo can receive a prize of 1 million CFA francs with a subscription to the entire Canal+ package; the second photo 500,000 CFA francs also with a subscription to the entire Canal+ package. "Send your photos whether you are an amateur or professional photographer. Showcase your beautiful country," he urged. The last project is a graffiti contest. As part of this project, CANAL+ called upon the Burkinabè professional graffiti artist, El Matro, to assist in the selection and training of young talents. The CANAL+ headquarters served as the venue for this activity.
"We took the space of CANAL+ to experiment with these talents to give them a space for creativity that we will make you discover. The talents expressed themselves, we thank everyone who participated as well as the jury members, including the president Smokey. A big thank you for his help. They helped us find the most talented talent. We decided to showcase it to you today. We hope you will enjoy discovering all these projects with us. Especially talk about it around you because Burkina Faso wins when we launch projects like this," pleaded the top executive.
Canal+ is active in the cultural field
As usual, CANAL+ plans to support cultural, sporting, and many other events this year, 2022. The Managing Director indicated that he supports an average of more than two projects per week in Burkina Faso. In perspective, this civic-minded company intends to implement the Orphée pan-African project, which consists of supporting orphanages. Two other projects are underway. They will be unveiled at the end of the year, announced Mr. Jonathan Lett. During this meeting, Canal+, the ultimate talent revealer, officially renewed its trust in the Burkinabè artist Amzy, Amza Ganem by civil status.
Since 2020, he has been the ambassador of the said company. Like him, the duo "les séparables," the artist Faity Baby, and the player Bertrand Traoré were also elevated to the rank of ambassadors of CANAL+ Burkina. The missions assigned to them are diverse: to promote Burkinabè culture, develop their talent, and above all, bring pleasure to subscribers of the CANAL+ bouquets. For the artist Amzy, this partnership brings him complete satisfaction. "My goal is to positively impact Burkinabè youth. And for that, I need visibility to be influential. In addition to giving me this visibility, CANAL+ has been helping me for a year now in my projects, including the charity concert and fundraising for internally displaced persons," he said.
While hoping for a good collaboration with Canal+, "les séparables" have pledged to respect all the clauses of the contract. They too affirmed that CANAL+ is an opportunity to gain visibility. "We produce content. And Canal+ supports us in visibility. It also happens that it supports us as artists in cash for the activities we carry out." The icing on the cake was the deliberation of the results of the first edition of the Street Art competition. Out of 35 applications, 10 works were selected after meticulous work by the jury.
The first prize was awarded to John Larris W Kabre. Joël Fiogbe and Ousmane Lougué were ranked second and third, respectively. These three winners received checks worth 1 million CFA francs, 500,000 CFA francs, and 300,000 CFA francs, respectively, in addition to certificates. The audience award went to Moussa Lankoandé. This urban art competition was launched last May 9th. "Let's celebrate our heroes, let's celebrate our cultures" was the theme chosen for the occasion. Taking advantage of the situation, the happy winners of the 30-year subscription to the entire Canal+ received certificates of recognition.
